NIGERIA REPRODUCTIVE, MATERNAL, NEWBORN, CHILD, ADOLESCENT AND ELDERLY HEALTH PLUS NUTRITION MULTI-STAKEHOLDER PARTNERSHIP COORDINATION PLATFORM (RMNCAEH+N)

Partnering for the Wellbeing of Women, Children, Adolescent and Elderly

The implementation of the RMNCHAE+N including Health Promotion strategies in Nigeria spans from before conception to childhood — through pregnancy, childbirth, infancy and childhood, adolescent and when old age sets in. It considers the home, empowering families through the health centre, bringing care closer to home and when needed, to the hospital and enhancing referral services across the three tiers of healthcare (primary, secondary and tertiary). Effective application of the RMNCHAE+N including Health Promotion strategies are known to build bridges across health systems with appreciable results from government efforts hence the need for its repositioning.

In repositioning the health system building blocks and strengthening performance drivers to achieve quality RMNCHAE+N including Health Promotion delivery and its outcomes, an effective high-level collaboration is an essential element to create synergy, avoid duplication, reduce wastages, and harmonize all efforts in the delivery of quality healthcare services.

With this in mind, the Family Heath Department of the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria, established and is convening the first ever Nigeria Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent and Elderly Health plus Nutrition (RMNCAEH+N) Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Coordination Platform. This platform is essential to ensure the achievement of sustainable outcomes towards the attainment of Universal Health Care Coverage, and commitment to, “Leaving No One Behind”. This robust partnership is vital in tackling the multi-pronged health challenges affecting women, children, adolescents, the elderly including Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria whose needs keep growing in spite of dwindling resources.

“I welcome the emergence and repositioning of the Nigeria Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent and Elderly Health Plus Nutrition (RMNCEA+N), a Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Coordination Platform aimed at strengthening our divergent capacity as a nation and improving alignment towards the attainment of Universal Health Coverage and in line with the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), a Medium Term Plan for 2017–2020, developed by the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari” Dr Osagie Ehanire, Honorable Minister of Health and Chair of the RMNCEAH+N MSPC Platform, Federal Republic of Nigeria

The multi-faceted coordination platform will harness the strengths of different stakeholders focused on improving the health and nutrition of women, newborns, children, adolescents, the elderly and persons with disabilities, while also leveraging resources towards maximization of outcomes and attainment of a shared vision for all Nigerians, particularly the vulnerable populations.

The RMNCAEH+N Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Coordination Platform creates opportunities to:

- Advance a common health agenda;

- Jointly advocate for reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent, elderly health and nutrition including health promotion issues;

- Mobilize, leverage and harness financial and technical resources from both domestic and foreign sources for enhanced RMNCAEH+N including health promotion programmes;

- Support partnerships & coordination at global, regional, national, and subnational levels on all issues towards improvement of RMNCAEH+N including health promotion services;

- Facilitate a public health emergencies preparedness and responsiveness mechanism that sustains delivery of essential RMNCAEH+N including health promotion services during any epidemics and/or other public health emergencies;

- Ensure effective documentation, data and knowledge management, including mutual accountability around RMNCAEH+N in Nigeria.

With a well-established and multi-faceted coordination platform, the Federal Ministry of Health will be better equipped to continue to provide leadership and strategic direction to the overall delivery of quality RMNCAEH+N including health promotion services in Nigeria.

“We have moved from being a ‘Core Technical Committee’ to a stronger Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent and Elderly Health Plus Nutrition (RMNCEA+N) Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Coordination Platform which brings all partners to one table to engage and reduce duplication and fragmentation and harness our collective strengths and skills to leverage opportunities for resources and for better health outcomes.” Dr Salma Anas-Kolo, Director/Head of Family Health Department, Federal Ministry of Health & Secretary of the RMNCEAH+N MSPC Platform

Stakeholders cutting across the RMNCHAE+N look forward to this great partnership to improve the health of Nigerians.
